Spectrum Health Systems Opens Outpatient Treatment Center in Great Barrington

Published On: September 3rd, 2020

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Sep. 3, 2020 – Spectrum Health Systems Inc., a longtime nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a comprehensive continuum of addiction treatment throughout Massachusetts, announces the opening of its newest outpatient treatment facility in Great Barrington, Mass., located at 290 Park Street.

The facility currently services 30 clients after its soft opening on August 3 and began admitting clients on August 13. The Bay State’s largest nonprofit recovery provider identified a need for services in this vicinity after noting that many clients were travelling from the Great Barrington area to its Pittsfield outpatient center for treatment. Services provided at the center include medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and mental health services, which includes group and individual counseling and more.

“Our mission is to make treatment as accessible and seamless as possible, and the data showed a growing need for localized treatment in the community of Great Barrington,” said Kurt Isaacson, President and CEO of Spectrum Health Systems. “The opening of our fifteenth outpatient center means we are able to reach more people and give them the evidence-based treatment Spectrum has been practicing for 51 years. We’re looking forward to being a good neighbor to Great Barrington and continuing to help combat our state’s opioid epidemic. Furthermore, the opening has us well on our way to reaching our goal of treating 500,000 new clients by 2025.”

According to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), 1,952 confirmed opioid-related overdose deaths occurred in 2019. In the first quarter of 2020, Mass.gov reported 112 confirmed opioid-related overdose deaths, and DPH estimates that there will be an additional 319 to 393 in Q2. Addiction remains an epidemic, both locally and nationally, and increasing access to treatment is paramount.

In the last five years, Spectrum has added four new outpatient facilities in Millbury, Milford, Weymouth and Pittsfield, and completed its newest inpatient facilities, the Charles J. Faris Recovery Center and The New England Recovery Center in Westborough, Mass. In 2019, Spectrum celebrated its 50th anniversary as an organization, proving that evidence-based treatment and a full continuum of care provides clients with the foundation for long-term recovery. In late-2019, Spectrum announced its bridge clinic with Milford Regional Medical Center (MRMC) to provide rapid access treatment to patients who enter MRMC’s emergency department.

Spectrum Health Systems’ Great Barrington center operates from 5:30am – 2pm, seven days a week. Administrators can be reached at 413-347-4647.
