Published On: September 23rd, 2024

Spectrum Health Systems, Inc., a not-for-profit organization providing a comprehensive continuum of addiction treatment and behavioral health services throughout Massachusetts, announced today the opening of its fifth peer recovery center, Bridge to Hope, in Southbridge, Massachusetts.

“Peer recovery programs are a vital part of the recovery journey,” said Kurt Isaacson, president and CEO of Spectrum Health Systems. “They provide support from individuals with firsthand experience, fostering understanding, connection, and accountability for others. This shared experience helps build trust and offers a sense of belonging, which is critical for long-term recovery. Opening our fifth center in Southbridge shows our commitment to ensuring people have access to the resources they need, especially in communities where it’s needed most. We’re proud to offer a safe and welcoming place where those in recovery, along with their families, can find the support to keep moving forward.”

Spectrum’s peer recovery centers are operated by individuals who have experienced addiction and recovery first-hand. Bridge to Hope will follow a harm-reduction approach, offering a wide range of services including recovery support meetings, health and wellness programs, educational workshops, social activities and family support groups. These services are tailored to meet the diverse needs of those navigating the complexities of addiction and recovery.

“I’ve had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the profound impact peer recovery centers can have on individuals and communities alike,” said Joe Rose, chief financial officer of Spectrum Health Systems. “I’m proud to witness the opening of our fifth center as these centers not only offer vital support to those in recovery, but a strong foundation for long-term well-being and continued growth.”

Carmen Ortiz, an experienced recovery advocate and resident of Southbridge, will serve as the center’s program director. With a strong background in peer recovery and recovery support, Ortiz is committed to fostering a supportive environment where individuals can work toward long-term recovery.

“We’re really excited to bring Spectrum’s peer recovery services to Southbridge,” said Athena Haddon, executive director of peer recovery services at Spectrum Health Systems. “Our centers offer a special kind of support that helps people build resilience, find connection, and rediscover hope as they move through recovery. With Carmen Ortiz leading, we’re confident it will make a real difference in the community.”

Bridge to Hope is located at 219 Everett Street in Southbridge and will be open Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. For more information, please visit our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BridgeToHopePRSC, our peer recovery support website or give us a call at 1-877-MyRehab.
