Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. Wins Two Contracts with the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services

Published On: September 21st, 2021

Spectrum Health Systems, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a comprehensive continuum of evidence-based addiction treatment, announced it was recently re-awarded two contracts by the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services. Spectrum was the incumbent provider for both solicitations.

Under the first contract, Spectrum will continue to provide residential treatment services through its Bright Futures program in Methuen, Massachusetts. Bright Futures is a 12-bed program for adolescent males with substance use disorders committed to the Department of Youth Services. The program teaches youths the skills needed to maintain drug-free, pro-social lifestyles. Participants follow a structured weekly schedule consisting of individual and family counseling, recovery-focused group meetings, life skills training, academic classes and recreational activities. Spectrum’s program design is flexible so that individualized goals may be attained within varying lengths of stay.

Throughout treatment, emphasis is placed on relapse prevention strategies and aftercare planning to aid in the youths’ successful transition to the community. In preparation for discharge, all youths develop a relapse prevention/aftercare plan to ensure continued recovery and positive community living.

“I am very proud of our staff and the work that we do,” said Mark Brown, Spectrum’s Executive Director of Adolescent and Peer Recovery Services. “I truly feel that we are partners with DYS, and it shows in the longevity and success of our working relationship.” Mr. Brown has worked with the Department for more than 20 years to ensure quality service delivery throughout Spectrum’s DYS-funded programs and will continue to provide executive level oversight of the newly contracted services.

In the second of the two contracts, Spectrum provides a variety of staff for DYS-operated programs in the Metro Region. Spectrum fulfills personnel requests in many areas including clinical services, direct care, food preparation, facility maintenance, transportation, and administrative support. In addition to staffing these departments, Spectrum is responsible for on-site monitoring, staff supervision, scheduling, training and performance evaluation.

Spectrum has a long history of collaboration with the Department of Youth Services, working together to meet the needs of at-risk youth with histories of substance use and delinquency. Over the past thirty-two years, Spectrum has provided a range of programming for the Department, including day reporting programs, assessment services, shelter care, residential treatment, and secure detention.
