Spectrum Health Systems Inc. Launches Employee Certificate Program on Trauma Informed Care

Published On: April 14th, 2017

Worcester, Mass. – April 14 Spectrum Health Systems Inc., a longtime nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a comprehensive continuum of evidenced-based treatment to help people overcome alcohol and other drug addictions, has incorporated an Introductory Certificate Program in Trauma Informed Care and a Comprehensive Program in Trauma Informed Care into its Educational Institute for employees. The program recently graduated 40 Spectrum employees, who will bring this experience back to their clients as a part of the company’s commitment to sustaining a safe and healing recovery environment for all.

“On behalf of Spectrum Health Systems Inc., we congratulate the latest graduates of the Trauma Informed Care Certificate Program,” said Kurt Isaacson, CEO of Spectrum Health Systems. “This vital course is essential to our mission to provide the highest quality care for our current and future clients. We hope that many more of our employees will take advantage of this opportunity to learn and grow, and better assist their clients.”

The Introductory Certificate Program is designed to build understanding and capability in practicing a trauma-informed approach in all client interactions, regardless of the employee’s job functions. Students will learn about the impact of trauma and helpful approaches in managing predictable and unpredictable situations.

Seminars for the Introductory Program include:

  • Trauma Informed Care
  • TIC: From Principles to Practice
  • Trauma Informed Crisis Intervention

Subsequently, all clinical graduates of the Introductory Trauma Informed Care Practices Certificate Program can take further courses to complete the Comprehensive Trauma Informed Care Practices Certificate Program. The Comprehensive Program will offer additional continuing education credits (CEU’s), and provide staff with opportunities to practice and expand their tool boxes for successfully working with clients impacted by trauma.

Seminars for the Comprehensive Program include:

  • Healing Trauma with Mindfulness Practices
  • Teaching Grounding to Clients
  • Trauma Informed Supervision

“One of the best parts about working for Spectrum Health Systems are the educational opportunities like the Trauma Informed Care Program as well as the mission to provide the most innovative, relevant, and impactful treatment for clients,” said Hillary Dumas, a Spectrum Senior Recovery Specialist at the Charles J. Faris Recovery Center and graduate of the program. “We take so much pride in our client care and we’re excited to implement what we have learned in the course in our client work.”
