Spectrum Health Systems Expands Psychiatry Practice with Matthew Bock, DNP, RN, PMHNP-BC

Published On: June 3rd, 2019

Spectrum Health Systems, Inc., a longtime not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing a comprehensive continuum of addiction treatment throughout Massachusetts, announced the appointment of Matthew Bock, DNP, RN, PMHNP-BC, as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner for the organization’s growing practice.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Matthew Bock to the Spectrum Health Systems team as we continue to expand treatment for both addiction and mental health,” said Kurt Isaacson, president and CEO of Spectrum Health Systems. “Our multidisciplinary approach to addiction treatment treats the whole person, because we understand that mental health care is critical to success in recovery. By continuing to invest in our psychiatry practice, we’re helping clients establish a strong foundation to carry with them the rest of their lives.”

Bock will work with medical and clinical staff to manage the care of clients undergoing treatment for drug and alcohol addictions as well as co-occurring disorders. People with substance use disorders often struggle with ongoing mental health illnesses sometimes complicated by past trauma, abuse, sexual assault and situational factors, though few treatment centers are equipped to treat multiple disorders at the same time. The most common co-occurring disorders paired with addiction include depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and schizophrenia.

“Spectrum provides an all-inclusive approach to addiction treatment that is hard to find,” said Bock. “I’m excited to make a difference as we continue to forge the way to providing integrated treatment standards during this unprecedented public health crisis.”

Bock began his career at Spectrum in 2017, serving as a nurse in the Pittsfield outpatient treatment center where he treated clients receiving medication assisted treatment. Before joining Spectrum’s nursing staff, he spent time at Gentiva Home Health in Pittsfield and the Behavioral Health Network-Carlson Recovery Center in Springfield. Additionally, Bock was the charge nurse at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, overseeing a 21-bed drug and alcohol detox unit. He also worked in the Emergency Department at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

Bock is a certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. He received his Bachelor of Science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2013 and completed his Doctor in Nursing Practice – Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program, also at UMASS Amherst, in 2018. He is affiliated with the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
