Spectrum Health Systems Welcomes Two New Board of Trustee Members In 2018

Published On: February 27th, 2018

Spectrum Health Systems, a longtime not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing a comprehensive continuum of addiction treatment throughout Massachusetts, today announced the appointment of two new board members. Michael Procopio of Procopio Enterprises, Inc. and Cheryl Gallant of Coghlin Companies, Inc. will provide strategic counsel and direction for its various inpatient and outpatient services.

“Michael and Cheryl bring dedication and passion to help people who are struggling with addiction and mental health issues. Their endeavors align with Spectrum’s innovative and collaborative approach,” said Kurt Isaacson, president and CEO of Spectrum Health Systems. “Michael’s personal connection to the disease of addiction helps make him a strong advocate for furthering both improved access and treatment, while Cheryl really understands the human toll that addiction takes on employees and families as well as its far-reaching ramifications. Both will be vibrant voices for Spectrum at the board level and in the community.”

Gallant brings 27 years of experience in human resources, which she will use to help guide recruitment efforts for the company. Before joining the board, Gallant was familiar with Spectrum Health Systems and the New England Recovery Center through her husband’s work at the Worcester County Jail, where Spectrum assists inmates returning to the community access treatment services upon release. She’s also familiar with Spectrum’s community-based programs and the positive results these programs have provided to her coworker’s son.

“In my initial meetings with the board of directors at Spectrum, it was clear that it is comprised of a very diverse, talented, and devoted team of professionals,” said Gallant. “I hope to utilize my experiences to compliment the makeup of the current board and support the Spectrum mission. Its community-based programs have yielded positive results for my coworker’s son, so I’ve seen the full continuum of care in action and look forward to bringing new ideas and perspectives to support the growth of this amazing organization.”

Procopio of Saugus works in the construction and real estate development industries and is passionate about addiction recovery, particularly in the military and veteran communities. He founded the Cpl. Scott J. Procopio Foundation, a local educational foundation providing scholarships to deserving area students and assisting in veteran addiction and homelessness causes throughout Eastern Massachusetts, in honor of his late brother.

Cpl. Procopio struggled with addiction before recovering and entering the Marines, and was killed-in-action in Iraq in 2006. Since then, Procopio has sought to continue his brother’s legacy by raising awareness for veterans, their families and families of the fallen about veteran homelessness and substance use disorders.
