Law enforcement, for many years, has had the ability to detain intoxicated individuals if police determined that they represented a danger to themselves or others. Inexplicably, those rules had not been updated to include drug users, even as the ongoing opioid epidemic began to swell throughout the Commonwealth, including in Worcester County where between 2014 and last year the increase in overdose deaths matched or was slightly worse percentage-wise than the state as a whole.

Spectrum Health Systems Names Kurt Isaacson as New President and CEO

Spectrum Health Systems announced today that current Chief Operating Officer Kurt A. Isaacson has been named its new president and chief executive officer effective July 1, 2016.  Isaacson will succeed retiring Spectrum President and CEO Charles “Chuck” J. Faris, who joined Spectrum in 1971 and led the organization through a period of significant evolution.  Faris will move to a senior advisor role to facilitate a smooth leadership transition.
